SAPPERS WERE AWARDED FIRST PLACE IN DIYAWANNAWA VESAK ZONE 2024

The annual Diyawannawa Vesak Zone 2024, jointly organized by the Ministry of Defence and the Independent Television Network (ITN), commenced on 23 May 2024.The ceremonial illumination of the Vesak lanterns took place on Vesak Poya Day evening under the patronage of Defence Secretary General G D H Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil (Retd) and the Chairman of ITN, Mr. Sudarshana Gunawardana.

The Vesak Zone is being held with the participation of the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, and Civil Security Department. This vesk zone, covering Denzil Kobbakkaduwa mawatha and the Ministry of Defence Road in Battaramulla, featured specially made lanterns and other displays showcasing expert craftsmanship of the military personnel.

The Sappers lantern was designed using mainly natural materials such as palm leaves, coconut shells, paddy seeds, and corn seeds by the soldiers of 4 (V) SLE.

Diyawannawa Vesak Zone was comprised with more than 15 rotating lanterns representing various establishment in the DHQC. Among these vesak lanterns sappers vesak lantern has been awarded the first place on 25 May 2024.
