Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc assumed duties as the 23rd Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers on Wednesday (22nd), according to the military traditions and customs at the Regimental Headquarters, Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Panagoda.
The incoming Colonel Commandant, Major General Lanka Amarapala, was warmly received by the Centre Commandant SLE, Colonel F Joseph USP, at the main entrance of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Regimental Headquarters. Then, Major General Lanka Amarapala was accorded a guard turnout, followed by the laying of a wreath as a floral tribute to the brave fallen war heroes of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.
Thereafter, in accordance with military traditions, a colourful guard of honour was awarded as a salute to the incoming Colonel Commandant. Next, symbolizing this significant moment, the father of Major General Lanka Amarapala, Captain A H Amarapala, who joined the first batch of sappers’ family, lit a traditional oil lamp, invoking his blessing as a proud father and also council members joined the lighting of oil lamp. Subsequently, the newly appointed Colonel Commandant posed for a group photograph with all Officers of the corps.
Next, he addressed all Officers of the corps, highlighting his scope of work and duties in the days to come. To conclude the day’s itinerary, the Colonel Commandant had an interaction with Officers during the reception of tea at the Officers' Mess.
