Special Explosive Ordnance Disposal Equipment under Chinese Grant Delivered to Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers

The Sri Lanka Army gratefully accepted a stock of special Explosive Ordnance Disposal Equipment, which had been gifted to the Ministry of Defence under the Chinese Military Grant scheme during a simple formal ceremony, headed by His Excellency Qi Zhenhong, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka and General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence at the Army Headquarters.

Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army, Major General W H K S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, the Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General M K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Voulnteer Force and Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General S A Kulatunga RWP RSP VSV USP psc Chief Field Engineer of the Sri Lanka Army, Major General DKSK Dolage USP psc General Officer Commanding of Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division and Colonel Gao Bin, Deputy Defence Advisor of the Embassy of People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka were among the distinguished invitees.

At the beginning of the day’s programme, a short video documentary was presented displaying existing bonds of goodwill and understanding that prevail between militaries in both countries. Afterwards, the formal signing of documents, related to the grant of equipment took place between His Excellency Qi Zhenhong the Ambassador to the Peoples’ Republic of China in Sri Lanka and General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.

Subsequently, eighteen REOD 4000 Explosive Ordnance Disposal medium robots, eighteen REOD 400 Explosive Ordnance Disposal robots, ten Anti Explosive Blankets and ten Explotion Protection Tanks and Vehicles were symbolically handed over to General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil by His Excellency Qi Zhenhong. The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence then presented them to the Commander of the Army and subsequently those were hand over to Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineer respectively.

These equipment will certainly uplift the capabilities of EOD operators and enhance the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Process and Humanitarian Demining Process of Sri Lanka Army

Soon after, the gathering of Senior Officers and invitees had inspected the display of all donated equipment.

This event had been witness by many Senior Officers, Officers and Other Rankers of the Army Headquarters.
