DONATION OF ADVANCED CANCER TREATMENT MEDICINE TO MAHARAGAMA APEKSHA HOSPITAL BY THE SL ARMY ENGINEER DIVISION

Due to a request and mediation of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division, Major General Lanka Amarapala, the Sri Lankan community in Italy, headed by Mr. Chaminda Ponnamperuma, sponsored the donation of a consignment of urgently-required advanced cancer treatment medicines, such as Oxaliplatin 100 mg, Cisplatin 50 mg, and Etoposide 100 mg to the Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama, on Friday (17).

Major General Lanka Amarapala symbolically handed over the consignment of those medicines to Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, the Director, Apeksha Hospital Mahargama, at the hospital compound.

Oxaliplatin 100 mg is used to treat advanced cancer of the colon and rectum, while Cisplatin 50 mg is used to treat advanced cancer of the bladder, ovaries, and testicles. Further, Etopaside 100 mg is used in combination with the aforesaid medicines to treat small cell lung cancers.

Colonel Mangala Balasooriya, Colonel Admin and Quartering of the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division, Mrs. Sandhya Ponnamperuma and Mr. Romesh Ponnamperuma (the spouse and son of the donor) also joined the donation program.
