SLE REGIMENTAL HQ BIDS FAREWELL TO RETIRING COLONEL COMMANDANT

Corps of Engineers (SLE) Regimental HQ at Panagoda recently hosted a colourful farewell parade for one of its proud son, Major General Chandhana Wijayasundara, Colonel Commandant of Corps of Engineers (SLE) and the former Commander of the Security Forces - Jaffna got underway at the Regimental Headquarters Panagoda, was attended by SLE Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks on 3 December 2022 before his retirement after completion of 35 years of service to the country and the Army.

The day’s ceremony commenced with the customary Guard Turnout. It followed offering of floral tributes to fallen war heroes. A colourful farewell Guard of Honour parade that followed in the parade ground afterwards saluted the retiring Senior Officer. He took the farewell salute at the Home of Sappers on the eve of his retirement from the special dais at the parade ground.

Later on, the retiring Major General Chandhana Wijayasundara, the day’s Chief Guest was accompanied to open the newly constructed Regimental Sergeant Major Chalet by cutting ribbons and unveiling a plaque.

Afterwards, he was invited to inaugurate the renovated PD Ramanayaka memorial Soccer and Rugby ground in Regimental center as a symbol of memory of his service to the Corps of Engineers. He cut a ribbon and opened the new Soccer and Rugby ground.

Refreshments with All Ranks and an all-rank lunch afterwards added symbolic memories to the farewell ceremony.

Later on the day, he was hosted to a formal dinner at the Regimental Officers’ Mess in accordance with military traditions where the departing Senior Officer was awarded a special memento by newly appointed Colonel Commandant Major General MK Jayawardena RSP USP ndu.
