Major General Nihal Amarasekara, the Chief Field Engineer and the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers upon his recent assumption of office as the 19th Colonel Commandant of the Corps made his formal visits to the Field Engineer Brigade on 13 and 14 February 2021.
In Confirming with the military traditions, at the arrival of the Colonel Commandant was honoured in a formal drive pass, before he was warmly welcomed by the Commander Field Engineer Brigade. Afterwards, he got blessing by offering flowers at the renovated temple. Thereafter he opened the renovated Mine Action Office Complex and newly constructed Sappers’ Rugby Stadium. As has been the practice of the ceremonies in this nature the day’s chief guest didn’t forget to leave his memories by planting a sapling in front of the mine action office.
Addressing the troops, the Colonel Commandant focused on the importance of training in different professional aspects of the career and maintenance of the highest standards of discipline. As well as the principles of the combat engineering was highlighted by the colonel commandant and the he thoroughly emphasized on the importance of them, to be a valiant sapper. During the all ranks tea at the 8 Field Engineer Regiment Sappers Mess, the days chief guest took time off to mingle with the gathering and inquired into their needs and other welfare measures and left a complimentary remark in the visitors' book thereafter.
The Colonel Commandant was extensively briefed on the demining site by the site commanders at the Engineer Brigade Conference hall. Officers were thoroughly instructed on achieving the goals on clearing of mine fields and safety of the site operators and he highly appreciated the works they have done so far.
Brigade Commander Field Engineer Brigade - Brigadier Pradeep Gunawardena, Brigade Commander General Engineer Brigade - Brigadier Dumindu Jayasinghe, Brigade Commander Plant Engineer Brigade - Brigadier Mahinda Jayawardena, Commanding Officers of under command battalions, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were participated to the event in accordance with the COVID – 19 health instructions.
