CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS CARRIED OUT BY ENGINEER TROOPS AT SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE HEADQUARTERS -SALAWA, KOSGAMA

Under the green concept, Sri Lanka Corps of Engineers has completed series of successful field and plant engineering projects at Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Forces Headquarters premises at Salawa, Kosgama. All the projects have been constructed under the overall command and continuous guidance of Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc, 42nd Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. All the construction projects closely supervised by the Commanding Officer 12 Field Engineer Regiment Major G J P DE Silva SLE, with the immense and highly dedicated contribution of the Officer Commanding 124 Plant Squadron Captain G A M R D B Udurawana USP SLE and troops belongs to Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.

While admiring the efforts of the Plant Engineer Brigade, 11 and 12 Field Engineer Regiments carried out all plant engineering works with the mechanical repairing support of 16 Workshop Engineer Regiment and all other vertical constructions done by the 4(V) Engineer Regiment.

PROJECTS CARRIED OUT UNDER THE GREEN CONCEPT

Corps of Engineers has initiated two Plant engineering projects “Taba Seru Vila” and “Siyoth Vila” under the green concept at the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Forces Headquarter premises at Salawa, Kosgama. “Taba Seru Vila”and “Siyoth Vila” will be priceless resources to the nature, Commandant SLAVF took initiatives of developing this two-natural wetland as a reservoir which greatly contributes in maintaining the green concept and this creation indeed provides a source of inspiration for the rest of the organization and the area concerns. Further details of the “Taba Seru Vila” and “Siyoth Vila” as follows:

TABA SERU VILA

Taba Seru vila has been constructed by 11 Field Engineer Regiment and12 Field Engineer Regiment inside the SLAVF premises with the maximum and precise use of bio diversity. A passageway has been constructed around the reservoir facilitating troops to engage in physical fitness training and enjoying the aesthetic beauty of the surrounding. This passageway has been named as “Thamba Seru Mawatha”.Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc was declared open “Taba Seru Vila” on 21 April 2020.

SIYOTH VILA

Siyoth Vila has been constructed by 12 Field Engineer Regiment. This is one of the major projects carried out by 12 Field Engineer Regiment under the Green Concept. The locality is abundant with birds and other creatures which are endemic to the area and possess with lavish ambience where anyone can console their stress while resting in calm and tranquility. This resourceful catchment area and water resource at “Siyoth Vila” nourish the paddy field and the cultivation of Akarawita village. Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc was declared open “Siyoth Vila” on 30 April 2020.

NEW PLAYGROUND (RENDEZVOUS GROUND)

The Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc was declared open the main pavilion of “Rendezvous Ground”.on 29 May 2020. 12 Field Engineer Regiment has been constructed Rendezvous ground in order to fulfill one of the dares need of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Forces Headquarters in Salawa, Kosgma. With the sheer commitment of the Commanding Officer 12 Field Engineer Regiment,Officer Commanding 124 Plant Engineering Squadron and troops of 124 plant squadron of 12 Field Engineer Regiment successfully completed the project in given time. The existing dimensions available in this ground premises allows to conduct Rugby Football, Soccer, Hockey, Basket Ball, Elle matches and also this can be developed into international standard athletic track and field ground with 8 tracks.

RENOVATED THE ROAD NETWORK INSIDE THE CAMP PREMISES

In addition to the other Plant Engineering tasks 12 Field Engineer Regiment constructed and renovated existing road network in Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Forces Headquarters premises Salawa, Kosgama.

• Renovated the existing road to Officer’s Mess from B Gate.
• Renovated existing road network in camp premises.

In order to commemorate and appreciate the diversified Field, Plant and other engineering contribution rendered to the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Headquarters by the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, a mini Dozer was placed at a special dais as a monument at the SLAVF Headquarter. This was declared open on 31st of May 2020 by Captain G A M R D B Udurawana USP SLEOfficer Commanding 124 Plant Squadron with the invitation of Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc.
