TROOPS FROM CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS SET TO SERVE IN THE UNITED NATIONS MULTIDIMENSIONAL INTEGRATED STABILIZATION MISSION IN MALI

One more Sri Lankan Army contingent, comprised of 243 Army personnel on Combat Convoy Company (CCC) including two sapper officers and 27 sappers, set to serve in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) left the country 13 November 2019.

At first, the Commander at the airport spoke to Lieutenant Colonel P G C S Gallage, Commanding Officer in the Mali-bound CCC, Phase II, Major N V A M Vithanage, 2nd in Command of the CCC Phase II and members of the CCC. Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva shared a few thoughts with them and extended his best wishes to the CCC at the airport after a brief military formality before boarding commenced.

The troops from Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) included two sapper officers and 27 Other Rankers, will be commanded by Major Sameera Idampitiya. The Sapper troops will execute the engineering tasks and contribution of engineers to the MINUSMA will facilitate, smooth implementation of the operations. The contingent expected to serve one year at this landlocked West African country.

With this contingent, the Sri Lankan CCC, included 20 Officers and 223 Other Rankers, representing 13 Regiments of the Army departed with the blessings of loved once, and rest of the Sri Lankans.
