The Colonel Commandant Major General D D U K Hettiarrachchi RSP VSV USP ndu psc extended his best wishes to the winners of the Army Inter Regiment Karate and Golf champions at a special meeting held on 26th February 2019 at RHQ SLE Panagoda.
Sri Lanka Army Golf Association organized the Inter Regiment Golf Tournament which was worked off on 8th and 9th February 2019 at the picturesque Golf Course (Polo Ground), in Diyatalawa. Team Sappers was led by Colonel Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP psc and the members were L/Cpl Ajith Kumara, L/Cpl Keerthisinghe, Spr Ilangarathna, Spr Silva and Spr Meegasthanna. The Sappers outplayed their opponents throughout the tournament and clinched the championship by wining 3 Gold Medals, One Silver Medal and 2 Bronze Medals and the Overall Winner’s Trophy of Army Inter Regiment Golf Championship 2019.
Similarly, the Sappers Karate Team clinched the championship in the Black Belt Category during the Army Inter Regiment Karate Championship - 2018 which was worked off on 27th ,28th and 29th of December 2018 at the Army Sports Complex, at Panagoda. The outstanding players at the meet were L/Cpl Dayananda of 11 SLE who secured the 1st Place in Team Katha-Black belt event. L/Cpl Dayananda of 11 SLE together with Spr Rajasinghe of 4(v) SLE and Spr Suresh Thilanga of 4(v) SLE won the 1st Place in the Team Katha-Black belt event. In the individual weight class, Spr Rajasinghe of 4(V) SLE became the 1st in the 50kg Black Belt Category. In the 60kg Black belt category Spr Fonseka of 1 SLE won the 1st place. In the 67kg Black belt event Spr Silva of 1 SLE secured the 1st place. In the 50kg Brown belt event L/Cpl Kumarathunga of 14 CBRN Regt was placed 2nd. In the 55kg brown belt event Spr Aberathna won the 1st place and Spr Rajasinghe became the Best Black belt Karate player of the Championship.
