CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS ACCORDS A FUNERAL PARADE UPON THE REMAINS OF LATE STAFF SERGEANT THURAIRATNAM

A premier Sapper member of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Staff Sergeant Thurairatnam, passed away on 3 February 2018, when he was at the age of eighty. Staff Sergeant Thurairatnam joined Ceylon Army on 08 November 1957 and was posted to the 1 Field Squadron of Ceylon Engineers. After completion of 22 years of dedicated service in Sri Lanka Army, he retired from the service on 08 November 1979.

Attending to the funeral, the Colonel Commandant and the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi, together with number of Senior Officers of the Corps and the Army, on 07 February 2018, paid their respect to the remains of late Staff Sergeant Thurairatnam, laid at Vallalai (Jaffna). Moreover, the Colonel Commandant Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi expressed his deep sorrow and condolences to the family members and closerelatives.

The troops of 10 Field Engineer Regiment accorded the funeral parade and this wasembedded in the history, since this short of solemn ceremony had not taken place at the Jaffna peninsula, after a long period of lapse.
