RETIRING CDS, GENERAL CRISHANTHA DE SILVA ACCORDED WITH A FAREWELL AT SAPPERS HOME
A Farewell for retiring CDS, General AWJC De Silva RWP VSV USP ndu psc was held at Regimental Centre Panagoda, on 21 Aug 17. General Crishantha De Silva who was formerly Colonel Commandant SLE, Commander of the Army and presently Chief of Defence Staff, warmly welcomed to the Regimental Centre by Maj Gen DDUK Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc on behalf of the Colonel Commandant, Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and greeted to the Guard turn out marking the commencement of the events of the days agenda.\r\n\r\nAfter the Guard turn out, as the customary, he laid a floral wreath at the monument as a tribute to Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers war heroes who made supreme sacrifices for safeguard the motherland.\r\n\r\nAfterwards, he was bestowed with a Guard of Honour consisted with two officers and 48 Other Rankers in accordance with Military traditions. Large number of sappers witnessed the moment with evident pride.\r\n\r\nThereafter, as per the day’s agenda, he attended the all rank tea party at utility building and shared few thought with the partakers while enjoying the delicacies made by the sappers. Then he left his signature on the Regimental visitors’ book making his last visit to the home as serving officer.\r\n\r\nThe street lining farewell greeted as \"Jaya Sri\" by the Officers and All Ranks of the Corps culminated the day’s segment. \r\n\r\nSenior Sapper Officers, Officers and Other Rankers gathered to the occasion.
