CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS CELEBRATES ITS 65th ANNIVERSARY

FLORAL TRIBUTE TO FALLEN WAR HEROES AT THE WAR HEROES\' MONUMENT\r\n\r\nSappers, conveying its deep reverence, commemorated fallen War Heroes of the Corps of Engineers, who made the supreme sacrifice in freeing the motherland at the Monument at the Headquarters of the Corps with the participation of spouses, children, parents and next of kin of fallen war heroes on 4th November 2016.\r\n\r\nThe Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General H C P Goonetilleke RSP VSV USP ndc psc participated as the Chief Guest of the event.\r\n Two minutes silence in memory of fallen war heroes was then observed before religious observances of major denominations got underway. Brief orations of Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Islamic denominations invoked blessings and offered merits on fallen Sapper War Heroes and all defenders of the nation.\r\n Afterwards, Chief of Staff Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineers Maj Gen H C P Goonetilleke RSP VSV USP ndc psc placed the first wreaths at the Ranaviru memorial and paid his respect while bagpipe music rent the air. Other Senior Officers, Regimental Sargent Majors and Relations of Fallen War Heroes proceeded to the War Hero Cenotaph in succession and laid wreaths, in remembrance of fallen Sapper Heroes.
