RETIRING MAJOR GENERAL ALDM GUNASEKERA RSP USP psc, ACCORDED WITH A PARADE AND FORMAL DINNER AT THE HOME OF SAPPERS
Major General ALDM Gunasekera RSP USP psc, popularly known as \"Lal\" among their associates, enlisted to the Army on 24 May 1982 as an Officer Cadet and served for more than 34 years of unblemished service in his illustrious career in the Army. Major General ALDM Gunasekera is due to retire from the Sri Lanka Army on 2 August 2016. During his military carrier, he held number of key appointments in the Army and finally held the appointment of the Rector Southern Campus Kotelawala Defence University. He was the first commanding officer of 9 Field Engineers Regiment and first rector of the Southern Campus KDU.\r\n\r\nMajor General Lal Gunasekara was received by the Centre Commandant, Brigadier AN Amarasekara USP at 0900 hrs on 30 July 2016 at the main entrance and initialy he inspected the guard turn out. Thereafter he was accorded with the Guard of Honour at the Parade Square. Number of senior sapper officers, sapper officers and other ranks were participated at the event.\r\n\r\nThe occasion was marked with a Tea Party at the Officers\' Mess where the Chief Guest was greeted by all officers present. \r\n\r\nFormal Dinner was hosted to the retiring Major General Lal Gunasekara by the Colonel Commandant, Major General HCP Goonetilleke RSP VSV USP ndc psc and All Officers of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers from 1930 hrs at the Officers\' Mess RHQ SLE. The occasion was graced by number of Senior Sapper Officers and Sapper Officers with their spouses which brought a glamour to the final event of the day.\r\n
