CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS CELEBRATE SINHALA-HINDU NEW YEAR 2016 WITH A FUN-FILLED TRADITIONAL NEW YEAR FESTIVAL AT MATTEGODA
Festival atmosphere in the country for the Sinhala-Hindu New Year prevailed in the Mattegoda Sapper cricket stadium grounds throughout the Saturday the 19th morning when Sappers and their families got together to celebrate the occasion by holding a fun filled New Year festival.
Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General H C P Goonetilleke RSP VSV USP ndc psc took time off his busy schedule to attend the festival as the Chief Guest.
The hoisting of the National flag by the Chief Field Engineer Major General G D I Karunarathne RSP psc declared the official commencement of the event. President, Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Seva Vanitha Branch Mrs. Lushani Goonetilleke and Members of the Seva Vanitha Branch, Senior Sapper officers, Sapper officers, Other Ranks, civil staff members and families participated at the occasion.
Traditional games & activities kept everyone involved and cheerful atmosphere prevailed throughout the day.
At the end of the festival, Major General H C P Goonetilleke, Mrs. Lushani Goonetilleke senior members of the Seva Vanitha branch & senior sapper officers gave away gifts for winners.
