WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL DAY CELEBRATIONS AT ENGINEER BRIGADE – BOO OYA

Our planet is running wild and losing natural balance due to the loss of its own natural means to compensate. Destruction of forests and other harmful activities of humans results in global warming. We all have a duty and responsibility of solidarity towards the next generation The World celebrates the “World Environmental Day” to promote world environmental security. HE the President has declared the Environmental week from the 30 May 2016 to 5 June 2016. In compliance intention of the His Excellency the President, the Engineer Brigade at Boo Oya celebrated the World Environmental Day on 5 June 2016 with the participation of Commander Engineer Brigade, Brigadier Amith Seneviratne, Colonel Project, Commanding Officers of 8 and 12 Field Engineer Regiments, senior Officers, Officers and other ranks. Commencing with the days program, Brigade Commander addressed the troops at the Brigade premises and emphasized the importance of environment and highlighted the responsibilities of Engineer troops, towards mitigating the ever increasing environmental issues while explaining the gravity of the serious consequences which may occur due to environmental destruction. Thereafter the distribution of garbage bins to under command units / sections of the Brigade was held which was followed by a tree planting in order to mark the sappers’ contribution towards making the earth, a greener place. A camp cleaning program marked the end of the day with the participation of all Officers and other ranks.
