US RISK REDUCTION AGENCY EXPERT ASSESSES CBRN CAPABILITIES OF SAPPERS

A subject matter expert from the United States Risk Reduction Agency conducted a comprehensive survey study at the CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) unit of Sri Lanka Army site in Home of sappers, Mattegoda on Monday (10). Under the guidance of the Chief Field Engineer of Sri Lanka Army, Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc and the supervision of General Officer Commanding of Engineer Division, Major General Shevanth Kulatunga RWP RSP VSV USP psc, the 14 CBRNE Regiment conducted a CBRNe demonstration. The subject matter experts arrived at the Home of Sappers to meticulously examine the CBRN unit's preparedness, equipment standards, training protocols, and overall effectiveness in managing CBRN-related incidents. This visit marks a significant step for Sri Lanka in strengthening its responder capabilities against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards.

Comprehensive briefing was carried out by Officer Commanding CBRNe Regiment Major Ruwan Herath SLE and during the discussion Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc had brought out importance of CBRNe preparedness and capability enhancement in terms of Human Resources and equipment from present status to technically advance development status, while General Officer Commanding Major General Shevanth Kulatunga RWP RSP VSV USP psc, more elaborated on the coordinated mechanism in national frame work with the identified threat analysis.

Sri Lanka Army’s collaboration with international experts and organizations demonstrates its commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities and ensuring the safety of its citizens. By welcoming the US Risk Reduction Agency expert, Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers emphasizes its proactive approach to leading ahead in CBRN responder capabilities.

Maj Gen Shevanth Kulatunga RWP RSP VSV USP psc, General Officer Commanding, Col Mangala Balasooriya, Colonel Admin & Quatering, Lt Col Jeewa Wickramarachchi, Colonel General Staff of Engineer Division and Commanding Officers of 14 CBRNE Regiment and 5 Field Engineer Regiment, Lt Col Mahesh Beligahawaththa and Maj Priyantha Jayawardena, Sapper Officers and Other Ranks were attended the event.
