The 14 CBRNE Response Regiment successfully conducted the Narcotic Detection Dog Handler Basic Course 01 (2025/01) under the concept and vision of the Commander of the Army, and under the guidance of the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and the Chief Field Engineer of the Sri Lanka Army. This marked the first occasion such a specialized course was organized by the regiment, representing a significant milestone in enhancing its specialized operational capabilities.
The course was conducted from 03 November 2025 to 05 May 2026, spanning a period of six months, which included three months of theoretical instruction and three months of practical training. A total of four narcotic detection dogs and three soldiers from Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and four soldiers from Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police successfully completed the program. The training curriculum covered key operational areas such as Building Searches, Vehicle Searches, Open Ground Searches, and Parcel Searches, equipping the handlers and their dogs with essential skills required for effective narcotic detection operations.
The Closing Remarks, Insignia and Certificate Awarding Ceremony was held at the SALEBA Open Ground on 05 May 2026. The occasion was graced by the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and the Chief Field Engineer of the Sri Lanka Army, Major General C D Wickramanayake WV RSP ndc who attended as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished invitees included the General Officer Commanding Engineer Division, the Centre Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, and the Commanding Officer of Special Investigation Unit Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police.
During the ceremony, the trained dogs and their handlers demonstrated the skills and techniques acquired throughout the course. Certificates and insignia were awarded to the successful participants by the Chief Guest in recognition of their dedication and achievement upon successful completion of the training.
