SERVING BEYOND DUTY: HUMANITY IN ACTION BY 1 FIELD ENGINEER REGIMENT

In times of crisis, true service extends beyond the call of duty. A proud unit of the Sri Lanka Army the 1 Field Engineer Regiment of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the nation, not only through its professional responsibilities but through acts of compassion and humanitarian support.

Amidst the ongoing drought affecting both the hill country and coastal regions, communities have faced severe shortages of safe drinking water. Responding swiftly to this urgent need, the unit mobilized its resources and personnel to carry out largescale water distribution efforts using water bowsers.

In the Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha area, the unit successfully distributed an impressive 138,000 liters of water to drought-affected communities. The beneficiaries included residents of Hegalla, UNISCO Village, Nanathota Village, Wadu Ella, Miriswatta, Bangalawatta, Ura Gala Handiya, Patiraja Village, Katuwalla, Waturawela, and Kebella Kanda. These efforts brought much-needed relief to families struggling to access basic necessities.

Simultaneously, in the Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha area, an additional 52,000 liters of water were distributed. A significant portion of this supply was directed toward ensuring safe drinking water for inmates at Bogambara Prison, highlighting the regiment’s inclusive approach to humanitarian service.

These efforts reflect more than just logistical efficiency they embody the spirit of humanity and national responsibility upheld by the Sri Lanka Army. By stepping forward in times of environmental hardship, the 1 Field Engineer Regiment reinforces the vital role of the military as a pillar of support for civilian communities.

As drought conditions continue to challenge livelihoods, such acts of service stand as a powerful reminder, the strength of a nation lies not only in its defenses, but in its compassion.
