SAPPERS SHINE WITH 8 MEDALS IN ARMY INTER-REGIMENTS GOLF TOURNAMENT 2023

Golf is a sport that presents an opportunity to see the beauty of nature, in a calming, and enlightened environment, while giving a competitor of any age or skill level a challenging, but exciting experience. It also perhaps the mist intriguing, deep-seated game due to its beautiful golf courses, intense preparation and clear mindset.

The Inter Regiments Golf Tournament 2023 kicked off during 15 -17 September 2023 at the Army Golf Course Diyatalawa. The grand opening ceremony of this prestigious event was conducted with great magnificence and was officially declared open by Major General B K G M L Rodrigo RSP psc IG, who graced the occasion as the esteemed chief guest and closing ceremony as well. The tournament witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 14 regiments from the Sri Lanka Army, making it a remarkable gathering of military golf enthusiasts. The tournament featured various categories, including an inaugural inclusion of both men and women novices. This marked a significant expansion of the event, emphasizing inclusivity and promoting the growth of golf within the military community.

It is noteworthy that the Inter Unit Golf Tournament, which took place from the 14 -16 of August 2023 at the Diyatalawa golf course, played a pivotal role in shaping the formidable team representing the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. Under the astute leadership of Major General SA Kulatunge RWP RSP VSV USP psc, the Sappers team displayed exceptional prowess, resulting in the acquisition of a commendable total of 08 medals during the Army Inter Regiments Golf Tournament. Major General SA Kulatunge RWP RSP VSV USP psc achieved his second consecutive victory in the Over 40 Championship, earning him the prestigious title once again. In addition to his championship win, he also claimed the longest drive award in the same category, showcasing his exceptional skills on the golf course.

As the Army Inter Regiments Golf Tournament concluded, the following players from the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineer Regiment were duly honored and awarded with medals and trophies to recognize their outstanding performances, highlighting their commitment and skill in the sport.
