SAPPER OFFICERS ANNUAL CRICKET ENCOUNTER 2017

The Sapper Officers Annual Cricket Encounter took place for the consecutive third time on 13 November 2017 at the Sappers Cricket Stadium Maththegoda. The event organized by the 16 Workshop Regiment under the supervision of the Commanding Officer Lt Col KASJ Kodithuwakku SLE. Colonel Commandant and the Commander Security Forces (West) Maj Gen S Ranasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc graced the thrilling event as the Chief Guest together with the participation of Senior Sapper Officers, Officers and Other Ranks.

The T20 match held between two teams the Greens and the Maroons. Greens won the toss and put maroons into bat and Maroons set a target of 113 for loss of six wickets. Greens emerged as the champions reaching a comprehensive win during the 3rd ball of the 20th over subsequent to a close battle. The team Green led by Maj Gen GDI Karunarathne RSP psc and the Maroons by Brig TJ Nanayakkara RSP USP ndu. The two teams were represented by the champion players of the Corps. Winners of Inter Unit Cricket Tournament 2017, the champions 14 CBRN Response Regiment and the Runners up 7 Field Engineer Regiment were presented trophies at the presentation ceremony by the Chief Guest. The Best Bowler Cpl Subasinghe HK 7 Fd SLE, The best Batsman L/Cpl Gunarathne VSL 14 CBRN Regt, The Best Fielder Lt Col TDP Siriwardhana psc SLE 14 CBRN Regt and the Man of the series Cpl Subasinghe HK 7 Fd SLEemerged during the championship too received their trophies from the Chief Guest. The Chief Field Engineer Maj Gen DS Weeraman psc presented a memento for the Chief Guest in appreciation of his gracious presence as the Chief Guest at the Sappers Cricket Encounter 2017.
