The 4 (V) Engineer Regiment of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers had the distinct honour of hosting Major General C D Wickramanayake WV RSP ndc, the 25th Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, during a formal visit to the unit premises on 7th April 2026. The visit served as a platform to review operational standards and appreciate the steadfast dedication of the Sapper community.
The official visit commenced with a ceremonial Drive Pass accorded to the Colonel Commandant at the main entrance, in accordance with military customs and traditions, symbolizing the regiment’s respect for its senior leadership. Upon arrival, the visiting dignitary was warmly welcomed by the Commanding Officer of the 4 (V) Engineer Regiment Lt Col L V R C N Bandara RSP psc SLE, alongside the Centre Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Colonel N K B S Jayasekara, and the Senior Officers and Officers of the unit.
Subsequently, the Colonel Commandant participated in a comprehensive briefing conducted by the Commanding Officer. During the session, the Colonel Commandant emphasized the vital requirement of developing the unit’s own internal infrastructure. While acknowledging the regiment’s significant contributions to corps-level infrastructure development projects across the island, he highlighted that the enhancement of the unit’s living and working environments is equally paramount to maintaining high standards of welfare and efficiency.
The programme continued with a Troop Address, where Major General Chandana Wickramanayake spoke to the gathered Sappers about the importance of unity, discipline, and selfless dedication. He took the opportunity to personally appreciate the tremendous work carried out by the 4 (V) Engineer Regiment troops in various national and military development projects, noting that their expertise continues to be a pillar of strength for the Corps.
Following the address, the Colonel Commandant undertook an inspection of the camp premises. The tour began at the Sergeants' Mess, where he inspected ongoing development projects aimed at improving the facility. He then visited the Corporals' Club and finally the Sapper Mess, where he interacted with the troops and reviewed the standards of the facilities provided for the Other Ranks.
The visit concluded on a significant note as the Colonel Commandant placed his signature in the Visitors’ Book, marking his visit in the unit's history. The presence and encouraging words of the Colonel Commandant significantly enhanced the morale and spirit of the 4 (V) Engineer Regiment troops, reaffirming their commitment to the "Sappers" family and the nation.
