MAJOR GENERAL NISHANTHA HERATH ASSUMES DUTIES AS THE 20TH COLONEL COMMANDANT OF CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS

The newly appointed 20th Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General IHMNN Herath RSP USP psc, took office during a ceremony held at the Corps Headquarters on 24 December 2021. He was greeted with Military honours and ceremonials before a gathering of Officers and Other Ranks. Major General Nishantha Herath is presently performing duties as the Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College. He is a proud product of St Thomas’ College, Matale.

The day’s Chief Guest on his arrival at the Corps Headquarter, was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant, Brigadier Manoj Madurapperuma and accorded with a Guard Turn Out. Afterwards, the Colonel Commandant laid a floral wreath at the war heroes’ monument to pay his tribute to the fallen heroes who made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the motherland. Subsequently, the Chief Guest was bestowed with a Ceremonial Parade.

Thereafter, Major General Nishantha Herath placed his signature on the taking over documents to certify the assuming of duties amidst chanting of Pirith by “Maha Sangha” in the presence of Senior Officers and the staff of Corps Headquarters.

As the next event of the day’s ceremony, the Colonel Commandant addressed the Officers who were present at the ceremony and all other serving Officers of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers via Zoom technology.

Finally, Major General Nishantha Herath attended for a Tea with all Officers at the Officers’ Mess. At the occasion, he shared his views and thoughts while engaging with the gathering.

The programme was held strictly in compliance with the COVID 19 Health guidelines.
