MAJOR GENERAL MK JAYAWARDENA RSP VSV USP ndu ASSUMES DUTIES AS THE NEW COMMANDANT SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE

Maj Gen MK Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers assumed duties as the new Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), amidst religious blessings and military formalities, conducted at the HQ SLAVF premises at Kosgama on 01 January 2024.

The Chief Guest was warmly welcomed by Major General MTKR Silva KSP Deputy Commandant SLAVF on his arrival and accorded with a guard turnout followed by the laying of a wreath as a floral tribute to the brave fallen war heroes. In accordance with long-lasting military traditions a colorful guard of honour was awarded as a salute to the incoming Commandant SLAVF.

After he arrived at his new office premises, he placed his signature in an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of the office at the auspicious time amidst pan-religious blessings.

Subsequently, the new Commandant hoisted the National flag followed by the National Anthem and Army Song jointly sung by everyone present which added splendour for the beginning of the year 2024. A two-minute silence in honour of all War Heroes who sacrificed their lives during the sacred mission of defending the Motherland and those who went missing in action was then observed followed by addressing to the troops and the day’s ceremony was culminated with a tea party with Officers and Other Ranks.
