Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Commander Security Forces (West), and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers revisited his alma mater accepting warm invitation from Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain, Commandant of the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA) as part of an esteemed gathering.
A distinguished delegation attended the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Alumni Interaction in Dehradun, India, from 6 to 9 December. This event brought together alumni IMA 87 (Reg) long course fostering camaraderie and celebrating a shared military heritage. The delegation participated upon an invitation from the Indian Army, the Ministry of Defence, and the Government of India.
Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain, Commandant of the Indian Military Academy, extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegation. The program began with an introductory session and an orientation briefing on the IMA’s comprehensive training programs. Later, the esteemed Indian military leader, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw MC, inaugurated a solemn wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial Statue in the presence of a significant gathering from the institution.
The Sri Lankan delegation toured the IMA, engaging with foreign Officer Cadets, including Sri Lankan cadets currently in training. Major General Lanka Amarapala and other senior officers had the opportunity to interacted with Officer Cadets and share thoughts. Major General Lanka Amarapala shared valuable insights on military leadership, professional development, and his career journey, leaving a lasting impression on the future leaders of the armed forces.
Beyond the formal interactions, the delegation participated in sports activities, fostering teamwork and camaraderie. Local sightseeing, including visits scenic hill station of Mussoorie. The delegation enjoyed a social evening that further cemented the friendship between the two armies, showcasing the importance of personal connections in building lasting professional relationships.
This visit marked a significant milestone in Sri Lanka–India military relations, with the largest Sri Lankan delegation comprising seven senior officers of the Sri Lanka Army including three retired officers. The visit showcased the enduring diplomatic and military cooperation between the two nations, reinforcing ties among IMA alumni and fostering goodwill.
