Sri Lanka celebrated its 77th Independence Day on 4th February with a grand ceremonial parade held at Independence Square under the theme "Let’s Join the National Renaissance." The ceremony was presided by His Excellency the President, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, accompanied by the Honourable Prime Minister. The event showcased the nation’s rich heritage, pride, and aspirations for progress as a sovereign state.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the National Independence Day Parade, led by Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.
Major General Lanka Amarapala had the distinct honor of commanding the parade, which included personnel from the Tri-Services, Sri Lanka Police, Special Task Force (STF), Civil Security Department, National Cadet Corps, and both retired and serving physically disabled war heroes. The parade comprised 283 officers and 4,143 other ranks, presenting a powerful display of discipline and unity.
The ceremony was graced by numerous dignitaries, including the Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament, Chief Justice, Governors, Ministers, Parliamentarians, Secretaries of Ministries, High Commissioners, Ambassadors, and senior Tri-Service officers. Esteemed foreign delegates, government officials, and other invitees added to the event’s significance.
Marking 77 years of independence, the celebration stood as a symbol of Sri Lanka’s dedication to peace, prosperity, and sovereignty. This year’s event emphasized the collective efforts to build a resilient and united nation, further underscored by the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative launched by the Government of Sri Lanka.
