MAJOR GENERAL C D WICKRAMANAYAKE WV RSP ndc ASSUMES DUTIES AS THE 25TH COLONEL COMMANDANT OF THE CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS

Major General C D Wickramanayake WV RSP ndc ceremonially assumed duties as the 25th Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers on Saturday, 4th April 2026, at the Regimental Centre, Panagoda, in accordance with military customs and traditions.

Upon arrival, the newly appointed Colonel Commandant was warmly received by the Centre Commandant, Colonel N K B S Jayasekara, at the Main Entrance and was honoured with a Guard Turnout. In a solemn gesture of remembrance, Major General Chandana Wickramanayake laid a wreath at the monument in tribute to the fallen war heroes of the Corps. This was followed by a vibrant Guard of Honour at the Parade Ground, symbolizing the deep rooted pride and discipline of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.

The formal assumption of duties took place during a dignified ceremony marked by religious observances, where the Colonel Commandant placed his signature on official documents, symbolizing the commencement of his new responsibilities.

Following the formalities, a group photograph was taken with the Regimental Staff, Senior Officers and Officers to commemorate this significant milestone in the history of the Corps. The event continued with an All Ranks tea party, arranged to foster camaraderie and fellowship among the officers and soldiers. This gathering provided a valuable opportunity for the newly appointed Colonel Commandant to interact closely with personnel of all levels, strengthening the bonds of brotherhood within the "Sappers" family.

The day’s proceedings culminated with the Troop Address, where Major General Chandana Wickramanayake shared his vision for the future of the Corps. He began by expressing his heartfelt gratitude to all those who supported his military career, acknowledging the mentors and peers who helped him reach this prestigious appointment.

During his address, he emphasized the paramount importance of maintaining the highest standards of discipline and professionalism. Highlighting a key objective for his tenure, the Colonel Commandant spoke of the Corps’ journey toward being awarded Regimental Colors, which is a prestigious honor that the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers is now within arm’s reach of achieving. He noted that strict adherence to military discipline is the foundation upon which such honors are built.

Concluding his speech, Major General Chanadana Wickramanayake called upon all ranks to provide their unwavering support and dedication to help achieve these collective aims throughout his tenure, ensuring the continued progress and prestige of the Corps.
