The Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) officially inaugurated its ‘Smart Agriculture Project’ in a ceremony presided over by Colonel JACS Jagoda psc, the Commandant of SLSME on 22 February 2025. The project, covering an area of 75ft x 160ft, includes an automated irrigation system and an automated fertilizer distribution system, both strategically designed to promote sustainable agricultural practices.
The Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka, serving as the guiding body and primary source of funding for the project, ensured that the initiative aligns with national objectives to strengthen food security and advance the sustainability of agricultural systems. Moreover, the Commandant underscored the importance of adopting technological innovations to modernize agricultural operations.
The opening ceremony saw the participation of Senior Officers, Officers, instructors, permanent staff, and course students who were provided with a valuable opportunity to engage with and gain practical experience in modern agricultural technologies. This initiative aims to serve as a demonstration of the potential for advanced technologies to revolutionize agricultural practices, further contributing to the national vision for sustainable agricultural development.
