HONORING THE FINAL JOURNEY OF CAPTAIN (QM) KKG KARUNADASA (RETIRED) USP SLE

The military funeral ceremony of Captain (QM) KKG Karunadasa (Retired) USP SLE, a dedicated servant to the nation over three decades, unfolded on the solemn evening of 30 January 2024, at the Pinnawala General Cemetery. The event drew a massive gathering of military comrades and mourners, paying their respects to an Officer whose legacy left an indelible mark on the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.

Major General DKSK Dolage USP psc, the General Officer Commanding, Engineer Division, led the military hierarchy present at the ceremony, symbolizing the profound respect for the departed comrade. Serving Senior Officers, retired Officers, and numerous mourners gathered to bid farewell as dusk settled, creating a poignant atmosphere.

Captain (QM) KKG Karunadasa (Retired) was born on 25 December 1953, and received his education at Waduramba National College. Joining the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force in 1979, he embarked on a journey with the noble goal of safeguarding the unity of the motherland. Initially posted to the 1 Field Engineer Regiment, his dedication and commitment led to his commissioning as a Quarter Master with the rank of Lieutenant on 17 October 1994. Subsequently, he earned the rank of Captain.

Throughout his distinguished service, Captain (QM) KKG Karunadasa (Retired) received numerous accolades, including the Uttama Seva Padakkama, Eastern Humanitarian Operation Medal, North Humanitarian Operation Medal, Purna Bhumi Padakkama, North and East Operation Medal, Riviresa Campaign Service Medal, 50th Independence Anniversary Medal, Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal, and the President’s Inauguration Medal. These honors reflected his honest and efficient performance of every duty assigned to him, exemplifying his commitment to the Army.

Captain Karunadasa's legacy is one of invaluable service to the Corps, the Army, and the entire nation. His sudden passing on 28 January 2024, after being hospitalized due to a sudden illness during his retirement, marks the end of an era. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, professionalism, and the unwavering support of his comrades.
