Modern terrorism is unpredictable and spread anywhere with the advancement of the modern technologies. Therefore, the maintaining of fully fledged Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squadron (EOD Sqn) is one of the best precautionary to overcome these threats.
As a developing country, Sri Lanka had to face many terrorist activities during prolong LTTE war and Easter Sunday attack. The knowledge, skills and dedications of EOD operators were helped to overcome those threats. With the vast expansions of the modern terrorism, the capabilities of EOD Sqn need to be enhanced in order to face future terrorist threats. Sri Lanka Army has identified the importance of the upgrading the EOD capabilities with the latest technologies and equipment to counter the terrorist activities in future. Under the guidance of Commander of the Army, the Headquarters Chief Field Engineer demanded the requirements of EOD Sqn in order to fulfil the defensive measures through the Ministry of Defence. With the long-lasting friendship between the China and Sri Lanka, Chinese government donated the under mentioned EOD equipment to the Sri Lanka Army.

The official handing over of donated equipment by Chinese Government to the Engineer Brigade was held on 20 April 2020 at Mattegoda Army camp. The ceremony was presided by Major General HRKP Pieris VSV USP ndu, the Chief Field Engineer accompanied by Brigadier NPA Gunawardane RSP, the Commander-Plant Engineer Brigade, Colonel M Mayadunne RSP USP, the Centre Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and the representatives from Master General Ordnance Branch, Headquarters of Chief Field Engineer, Directorate of Planning and Directorate of Ordnance Services. The event was successfully organized by 14 Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Response regiment under every safety precaution against Corona virus.
