GENEVA INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR HUMANITARIAN DEMINING (GICHD) SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE EOD LEVEL III COURSE
An initiative taken by the National Mine Action Centre has become success with the assistance of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) with successful completion of EOD level III course. The seven week long course was conducted by the two experts of the GICHD, Mr Sean Moorehouse (Consultant to the GICHD) and Mr Roly Evans (GICHD EOD Instructor and the Course Director). EOD Level III is an internationally recognized course which was conducted by the GICHD for selected members of the Sri Lankan Demining Community. The course comprised with twelve Students including nine members of the Sri Lanka Army, two members of the National Mine Action Centre and one member from the DASH Demining Group. The Course commenced on 28 June 2016 and concluded on 12 August 2016.
Students were empowered with five weeks of theatrical sessions and two weeks of practical. Theory part was conducted in Army Camp Mattegoda and practical sessions were conducted at the Demolition range at Kachchigala, Embiliptitya.
The course was conducted in accordance with the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) 09.30 and the test and Evaluation Protocol for EOD Competency. At the end seven students were successfully completed the course including five from Sri Lanka Army and two from National Mine Action Centre and awarded with the internationally recognized EOD Level III Certificate.
