On 18th May 2022 in line with the 13th Victory Day Commemoration, Brigadier A H L G Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc was promoted to the rank of Major General. In honour of his promotion, Major General Lanka Amarapala was awarded with a Guard Turnout and Guard of Honour on 25 May 2022 at the Regimental Headquarters - Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Panagoda.
Major General Lanka Amarapala was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant Brigadier Manoj Madurapperuma on his arrival to the Corps Headquarter. Thereafter, he was bestowed with Guard Turnout at the main entrance followed by laying a floral wreath to the Sappers who paid the supreme sacrifice in restoring peace to the Country. Major General Lanka Amarapala then took the salute offered by the Guard of Honour in conformity with military traditions.
This event was witnessed by several Senior Officers and Other ranks of the Corps of Engineers including his family Mrs Surangi Amarapala, Daughter Thanuli Amarapala Son Virul Amarapala and father of Major General Lanka Amarapala, Capt (Retd) A H Amarapala CE. It is notable that Capt (Retd) A H Amarapala CE is one of the premier Sappers who was recruited in 1951 with the formation of the Ceylon Engineers.
The felicitation ceremony culminated with Tea at the Officers’ Mess with the presence of the Colonel Commandant Major General Nishantha Herath and Senior council members who wished him for his well-deserved promotion and shared in his happiness. Major General Lanka Amarapala presently holds the appointment of General Officer Commanding, 12 Infantry Division.
