DELEGATION OF GLOBAL PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS INITIATIVE (GPOI) VISITS ENGINEER BRIGADE BOO-OYA CAMP AND THE HUMANITARIAN DEMINING SITES
A six member delegation from the Asia Pacific C-IED Fusion Center of United States Pacific Command conducted a two days visit to the Headquarter Engineer Brigade at Boo-Oya and to the Humanitarian Demining Sites in the Northern Peninsular and in the Wanni Region. The Delegation consisted with One Engineer Officer, Three EOD experts from US Army Ordnance Corps, one ECM Expert from the US Army Signal Corps and one member from the Planning Sector of the Pacific Command.
The delegation visited the Engineer Brigade on 16 August 2016 and views were exchanged between SL Army Delegation which was headed by the Chief Field Engineer and the Commander Engineer Brigade, Commanding Officer 8 Field Engineers Regiment, Engineer Squadron Commander assigned to deploy in Mali and the members of the brigade staff were represented the SL Army delegation. The US Delegation was conducting its visit with the view to extend the counter Improvised Explosives Device (C-IED) training facilitation and to provide up-to-date courses.
The dialogue between the two delegations were took place at the conference hall of Engineer Brigade mainly focused on the ways and means of sharing IED experiences with the US Army in the future. Similarly US Delegation expressed their keenness to conduct C-IED training module for the Engineer Squadron which is designated to deploy in Mali for UN Peacekeeping Mission.
On 17 August 2016, the delegation visited the SL Army Humanitarian Demining site at Muhamalai to witness the manual process of demining and later in the day, they have witnessed the mechanical and MDD assets at the Demining site at Mahamailankulam in Vavuniya. The two day successful visit of the US Delegation was terminated at that point.
