CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS CELEBRATED VESAK FESTIVAL 2016

Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers celebrated Vesak festival 2016 as the most sacred holiday on the Buddhist calendar marking the birth, enlightenment and death of Lord Buddha. The Colonel Commandant Major General H C P Goonetilleke RSP VSV USP ndc psc extended ‘Vesak’ greetings to All Sri Lankans on behalf of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. All Regiments and establishments of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers engaged today with religious ceremonies such as Alms giving, Bodhi Poojas, Dhamma sermons, Vesak Lanterns and Dansals across the country to celebrate the Vesak festivel 2016. The activities carried out by the Sappers to mark the Vesak celebration are as follows: 1. Headquarters Chief Field Engineer Mattegoda was illuminated with Vesak lanterns. 2. Engineer Brigade, 8th Field Engineers Regiment and 12th Field Engineers Regiment displayed Vesak lanterns along the road in front of Engineer Brigade Boo-oya. 3. Regimental Headquarters Panagoda was decorated with Vesak lanterns and Officers and Other Ranks participated to the \"Dana Pinkham\" which was organized at Army Temple Panagoda in order to sharing with joy and peace with people. 4. 1st Field Engineers Regiment displayed the Rotating Vesak lantern at the “Vesak Kalapaya” organized by Security Force Headquarters (West). 5. 5th Field Engineers Regiment, 14th Independent Engineers Regiment and Independent Workshop Sri Lanka Engineers displayed Three Vesak Lanterns in front of Mattegoda Camp premises. 6. 6th Field Engineers Regiment displayed a Vesak Lantern at Army Headquarters. 7. 7th Field Engineer Regiment displayed a Vesak Lantern at the “Vesak Kalapaya” organized by Security Force Headquarters (East). 8. 9th Field Engineers Regiment displayed a Vesak Lantern at the Camp premises. 9. 10th Field Engineers Regiment organized a Bodhi pooja and displayed a Vesak lantern at “Wesak Kalapaya” conducted by Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna). 10. 11th Field Engineers Regiment organized a Bodhi Pooja and displayed a Vesak lantern at “Wesak Kalapaya” conducted by Security Force Headquarters (Mullative). 11. 12th Field Engineers Regiment organized a Bana programme at the Camp premises. 12. 4th (Volunteer) Engineers Regiment displayed a Vesak Lantern at the “Gangaramaya Vesak Kalapaya 2016” and conducted a Bana programme at am hours and a Dansala in the evening. 13. 15th (Volunteer) Engineers Regiment organized a Dansala in the evening and displayed a Vesak Lantern at Bauddhaloka Mawatha. 14. EOD Squadron displayed Vesak lanterns in the camp premises. 15. Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering, Embilipitiya conducted a Dansala and Vesak Lantern display. .
