CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS BID FAREWELL FOR OUTGOING MAJOR GENERAL MERVIN PERERA

A farewell for retiring Major General Mervin Perera was held on 28 August 2018 at the Corps Headquarters. A large gathering of Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks attended on the event. Major General Merving Perera enlisted to the Army on 14 June 1895, as an Officer Cadet to the Intake SSC 5 and rendered his service to the Sri Lanka Army for a period of 33 Years. During his illustrious military career he held number of key appointments in Sri Lanka Army including Commanding Officer for three Units, Military observer, Commander 612, 524 Brigade, Brigadier (Doctrine development) ARTRAC, General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Director General of Overseas Operations.

The day’s Chief Guest Major General Mervin Perera was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant Brigadier Sarath Dissanayake, on his arrival to the Corps Headquarter and accorded with a Guard Turnout. Afterwards, he laid a floral wreath to the monument on remembrance of war heroes. Subsequently, he was bestowed with a Guard of Honour. After the parade, Day’s Chief Guest had a courtesy call with the Commander Security Force (Jaffna) and the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi at his office and posed for a group photograph with all the Officers who graced at the Occasion. Subsequently, all the distinguished invitees attended with a tea at Officers Mess. As per the military traditions and the customs retiring Major General Mervin Perera was hosted a farewell dinner night at the Officers’ Mess. A large gathering of Senior Officers, Officers attended with the farewell dinner along with their spouses.
