HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on the recommendations of Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army promoted two sapper officers, Brigadier Nihal Amarasekara and Brigadier Nishantha Herath to the rank of Major General, effective from 22 May 2020.
Afterwards, Major General Nihal Amarasekara appointed as the General Officer Commanding, 56 Division with effect from 29 May 2020 and Major General Nishantha Herath appointed as the Director General Training at the Army Headquarters.
