THE COLONEL COMMANDANT SALUTES LATE LIEUTENANT(QM) S P DE SILVA’S FINAL JOURNEY

The military funeral of Lieutenant (QM) S P De Silva (Retired) SLE, who dedicated 23 years of his life to the service of his country, was held on the evening of 26th November at the Borella General Cemetery. The solemn event witnessed a large gathering of his military comrades, senior serving and retired officers, officers, other ranks and other mourners who came together to bid a final farewell.

Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Commander Security Forces (West) and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers attended the funeral to pay his respects. His presence, along with that of serving and retired officers, reflected the profound respect and admiration for the late officer.

O/50899 Lieutenant (QM) S P De Silva belonged to the 1 Field Engineer Regiment. He was a distinguished officer who devoted a significant portion of his life to the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and the Sri Lanka Army. Renowned as an exceptional sportsman, he represented the Army and the nation in football and rugby at both local and international levels. His remarkable achievements brought immense pride and honor to the Corps, the Army, and the country.

Joining the Army Regular Force in 1961 with the noble intention of safeguarding the motherland's unity, he was initially posted to the 1 Field Engineer Regiment. Later on, commissioned with the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant De Silva retired in 1984, after a career marked by dedication and valor.

After years of invaluable service, Lieutenant (QM) S P De Silva SLE passed away on 23rd November 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones during his retirement.
