A Chess Training Workshop for troops of Jaffna was conducted under the guidance of Commander Security Forces (Jaffna)‚ Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu at the premises of Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) from 07 March 2022 to 11March 2022.
This Chess Training Programme was initiated at the Security Force (Jaffna) under the close supervision of Chairman - Army Chess Committee, Major General Swarna Bothota. RWP RSP USP psc.22 Soldiers were attend the Workshop and they were educated on the Chess game.
End of the 5 days Training Session, Infman Viduranga GR of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Regiment was awarded for his commendable achievement as the First Place.

The Commander - Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Kavinda Balasooriya RSP psc paid his the first official visit to the 1st Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment on 07 January 2022.
The Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Rohana Thilakarathna MIR on arrival to the camp premises, warmly welcomed him. Commanding Officer delivered a comprehensive briefing on the present status of the battalion and operational and administrative activities of the area. Then he was invited to address the troops and to visit the campsite and area of responsibility.
Finally, the Commander, Mechanized Infantry Brigade kept praiseworthy remarks and compliments in the Visitors’ Book before culminate the day's proceedings.

As the 13th Colonel of the Regiment of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Major General Channa Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force assumed office on 21 December 2021 during a formal military ceremony.
Symbolizing of his formal acceptance of the new office, he left his signature in a formal document after religious observances. Centre Commandant, Brigadier Kumara Wanasinghe RSP USP and Regimental Council Members, several Other Senior Officers along with Commanding Officers were also associated with the inauguration of the new office.
