Regimental Headquarters Sri Lanka Light Infantry celebrates its 27th anniversary on 23 Oct 16.
With the rise of terrorist activities in the country, Sri Lanka Army was commenced to be expanded. With this expansion Regimental Headquarters were raised to streamline the administrative functions of the battalions. Accordingly, then Commander of the Army, Lt Gen H Wanasinghe (retd) VSV ndc issued raising order to establish SLLI Regimental Centre, and began to function on 23 Oct 1989 at Army Cantonment, Panagoda.

The 19th Army Para Games 2016 came to an end on 14th October 2016 as SLLI topped the medal table and became champions, wining incredible 48 Gold, 53 Silver and 40 Bronze medals. The closing ceremony was held at the Diyagama Stadium with the participation of Commander of the Army Lieutenant General A W J C de Silva RWP VSV USP ndu psc as the chief guest.SLLI athletes set new track and field records in a nine athletic events in 200 m, 800 m, 5000 m shot put, high jump, long jump, and discus-throwing. S/321925 Cpl Somasiri RADC was adjudged as the best athlete.Col of the Regt and All Ranks wish all the best to the Sports team of HQ Bn SLLI who devoted themselves for this remarkable victory.

A ceremony to award gallantry medals to War Heroes both retired and service, who bravely fought against ruthless terrorism which lasted in the country over three decades and sacrificed their lives and limbs for the sake of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland and to usher peace and prosperity to all Sri Lankans was ceremoniously held on 13th of November 2016 at Russel Hein playground of Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Light Infantry with participation of Major General KADA Karunasekara RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, Colonel of the Regiment Sri Lanka Light Infantry and Commander Security Force Headquarters (Kilinochchi) as the Chief Guest.The Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment was awarded 285 number of Rana Weera Padakkama and 749 number of Rana Sura Padakkama. Colonel of the Regiment awarded 50 Rana Wickrama Padakkama and 25 Rana Sura Padakkama while Regimental Council members presented medals to the rest of recipients.
