LECTURE ON \"ENVIRONMENT, INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE AND PATRIOTISM\" (පරිසරය දේශිය ඥානය හා අපේකම) ENLIGHTENED THE HIGHLANDERS

A well known lecturer of Government in Sri Lanka Mr. Thilak Kandegama conducted series of lectures related to above topics at the Regimental centre auditorium on 19 Jan 2017. Centre Commandant, All Staff officers and more than 300 other ranks participated in the event.

12TH BATTALION THE GEMUNU WATCH CELEBRATED ITS 9TH ANNIVERSARY

12th Battalion the Gemunu Watch celebrated its 9th Anniversary on 01st January 2017 and Intercompany Cricket, Volleyball, Tug of War tournaments were held from 14th December 2016 to 18th December 2016. Cleaning of Shanthi Elder’s home -Kaithadi was held on 20th December 2016 as a community relation work. Religious ceremonies were held at Kirivehera, Katharagama Devalaya, Ratnapura Maha Saman Devalaya and Nagadeepa from 22nd December 2016 to 28th December 2016.

BATTLE OF GANNORUWA

As per the direction of HQ 52 Division, a presentation on “Battle of Gannoruwa\" was held at the HQ 12 GW - Koilakkandi at 2000 hrs on 07 Oct 2016. It was conducted by the Officers of 12 GW and GOC 52 Division, Brig W A Wanniarachchi RWP RSP ndcpsc Commanders of 521 and 523 Brigades, Commanding Officers of battalions under 52 Division and the other junior Officers were present in the audience.

WORKSHOP FOR REGIMENTAL CLERKS

A workshop was conducted at RHQ GW on 15 Nov 2016 to develop the skills, knowledge and awareness of Regimental clerks in the fields of their works .\r\n\r\n Lt Col EAG Jayasiri (Rtd) USP was the visiting lecturer to conduct the session. All the staff officers , Clerks of the RHQ and clerks from every battalions were participated for the event .This was a wonderful session for the officers and ORs to share the experiences of one of the Gemunu Watch legendary character. After the workshop a quiz session was held and prize were given for the winners.

GW War Heroes Recognized Awarding Gallantry Medals

Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP), gallantry medal awarding ceremony for the remainder of Gemunu Watch (GW) War Heroes took place Saturday (19) during a dignified ceremony at Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council auditorium. Major General P.U.S Vithanage, Colonel of the Regiment, GW as the Chief Guest presided the occasion. A total of 524 War Heroes out of 1363 received those medals during the ceremony at Rathnapura. Recital of the GW Regimental Song and observance of a two-minute silence in memory of all fallen War Heroes kicked off the day’s programme.

MAJOR GENERAL WA WANNIARCHCHI WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc FELICITATED AT THE REGIMENTAL CENTRE

A Felicitation ceremony was held on 11 November 2016 at Regimental Centre the Gemunu Watch to honour Major General WA Wanniarchchi WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc on his promotion to the rank of Major General . A ceremonial parade was accorded to him witnessed by his family members and many senior officers, officers and other ranks. Thereafter he participated for a floral tribute at the war memorial monument to remember all the fallen heroes, followed by all ranks tea party at swimming pool site. Later he was invited to the Officers’ Mess for a lunch.

INAUGURATION OF THREE-STORY BUILDING AT RHQ GW

Newly constructed Grade III officers accommodation complex was declared open by Col of The Regt Major General PUS Vithanage RSP ndu on 11 November 2016 . It was a long due requirement for the Regimental Centre and the construction work was carried out under the close supervision of the Commandant. Accommodation facility will be provided to all officers of Grade III level ,officers of 8 GW and RHQ GW.

COMMANDER 141 BRIGADE VISIT 3RD BN THE GEMUNU WATCH

Colonel N R Lamahewage RWP RSP, Commander 141 Brigade paid a visit to the Headquarters of the 3rd (Volunteer) Battalion of The Gemunu Watch During the visit to his TAOR, After assuming his duties as Commander 141 Brigade .\r\n\r\nOn his arrival to the Headquarters of the 3rd (Volunteer) Battalion of The Gemunu Watch Lieutenant Colonel M K Thushara, the Commanding Officer received Colonel N R Lamahewage RWP RSP and a guard turnout was inspected at main entrance.\r\n\r\nTo mark his first visit, Colonel N R Lamahewage RWP RSP planted a Mango tree , participated in a tea organized by the Commandin

THE 23RD BATTALION OF THE GEMUNU WATCH RENOVATES OLD BUS-HALT AT KILALY

An old bus-halt at Kilaly, which posed a threat to passengers waiting for busses due to its worse condition, was renovated by the 23rd Gemunu Watch (23 GW) and vested in for the use of villagers on 19th July. The 23 GW battalion renovated this old passengers’ shelter with labour and financial contribution of its soldiers for the benefit of nearly 900 civilians in Kilaly area. Commander 552 Brigade Colonel Deepal Wanniarachchi, Commanding Officer 23 GW and villagers attended the ceremony organized to declare open the new passengers’ shelter.
