INTER BATTALION ATHLETIC MEET – 2015

The Gemunu watch inter Battalion Athletic Meet 2015, a Major event in the Gemunu watch sports calendar, was ceremonially held on 15th and 16th of October 2015 at the Mahinda Rajapasha Stadium, Diyagama. The main intend of the event was to uplift the skills of sportsmen and selection of new athletes to the regiment athletic team. Over 750 GW sportsmen participated for all track and field events in Inter Battalion Athletics Meet 2015.

GEMUNU WATCH ORGANIZES MEGA MUSICAL EVENT WITH ARMY BAND

The Gemunu Watch Regimental Headquarters with a view to further strengthening its coffers to carry out more and more welfare roles for its disable War Heroes, family members of fallen War Heroes .it organized a mega musical show, a lottery draw to those who serve to his mother land without concern their own lives ‘Minipura Gemunu Nada – 2015’, backed by the Army band, Major General PUS Vithanage RSP ndu, Commander 21 Division , Anuradhapura , Col of the Regt , after lighting the traditional oil lamp as the Chief Guest, inaugurated the day’s programme.

L CPL WEERASEKARA WKMC OF GW WON A BRONZE MEDAL AT THE 8TH COMMONWEALTH KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP – 2015

8th Commonwealth Karate Championship – 2015 was held from 18th to 20th of September 2015 in Talkatora Indoor stadium New Delhi. 18 countries and more than 1000 participants participated for the championship. Out of 1000 participants 92 participated from Sri Lanka and out of that 16 participated from SL Army. S/425098 L/Cpl Weerasekara WKMC – 19 GW won above 84 Kg weight class bronze medal in the 8th Commonwealth Karate Championship – 2015. This was the first time Gemunu Watch soldier won a medal in the Karate sport event in overseas.

HIGHLANDERS KEEP ON WINNING AT SPORT EVENTS.

S/419929 Cpl Wickramasooriya KGJS 8 GW and S/423431 Cpl Kumarasiri PDAP 6 GW won the gold and bronze medal of the world defense Para swimming meet held at Paris in France from 02 Feb to 06 Feb 2015. This is the first time Sri Lankan disable war heroes recorded historical win defeating swimmers by 18 countries. They not only kept the Gemunu flag high but also the flag of country and Sri Lankan Army as well. INTER BATTALION TUG OF WAR TOURNAMENT - 2015

The Gemunu Watch Inter Battalion Tug of War Tournament 2015, was ceremonially held on 19th and 20th of November 2015 at Regimental Centre Sports ground. 21 battalions participated in this event and the tournament was conducted according to the league system. The Centre Commandant of the Regimental Centre Brigadier PI Pathirathna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest during the opening ceremony.

MAJOR GENERAL KPA JAYASEKARA WWV RSP USP ndc psc FELICITATED AT THE REGIMENTAL CENTRE

Major General KPA Jayasekara WWV RSP USP ndc psc who promoted to the rank of Major General after rendering a valuable service to the Sri Lanka Army as well as to the motherland was felicitated at the Regimental Centre of The Gemunu Watch on 09 July 2016 . A ceremonial parade was accorded to him witnessed by many senior officers, officers and other ranks of the Gemunu Watch.

GET TOGETHER OF RETIRED AND SERVING OFFICERS AT LAYA BEACH HOTEL

A dignified get together of retired and serving Gemunu Watch Officers was held at Laya Beach Hotel Wadduwa on 9th January 2016. The Colonel of the Regiment, Major General PUS Vithanage RSP ndu, Centre Commandant Brigadier P I Pathirathne and many of retired and serving senior and junior officers with their spouses were present for this colorful event. This fabulous get together was arranged by the Regimental Centre The Gemunu Watch and it was comprised with a musical show, games corner and many entertainment events.

COLOUR AWARDING CEREMONY RHQ GW - 2015

Regimental Centre The Gemunu Watch had Colours Awarding ceremony on 19 January 2015 Colonel of the Regiment Maj Gen PUS Vithanage RSP ndu as the Chief Guest .The awarding ceremony at Regimental Headquarters auditorium , presented colours to 4 officers and 39 other rankers of the Gemunu Watch who did exceptionally well in the fields of athletics, cricket, swimming, football, wheelchair tennis, combat firing, air rifle firing ,karate, rugby, power lifting, bodybuilding . In addition, merit certificates, achievement certificates, were also awarded to the recipients.
