HIGHLANDERS CONTRIBUTE TO ‘NATIONAL PHYSICAL FITNESS WEEK\'

To coincide with the ‘National Physical Fitness Week’ as per instructions of the Commander of Army, a physical training programme got underway Monday (6) morning at Regimental Centre The Gemunu Watch at Kuruwita, under the patronage of Brigadier KDCGJ Tilakaratne RWP RSP, Centre Commandant - RHQ - GW. The event started by raising the National flag followed by a brief address by the Centre Commandant. More than 20 Officers and 500 men participated in the programme.

INTER BATTALION TUG OF WAR COMPETITION - 2017

Inter Battalions Tug of War competition 2017 was held at the Regimental Headquarter premises on 29,30,31 Mar 2017, with participation of 23 Battalions. the Centre Commandant graced the occasion as the chief guest. Team of 9 GW and 24 GW were competed for final win and after the keen competition 24 GW was able to capture the championship as the winner in the game repeatedly in third time of Gemunu Tug of War sport history.

Regimental staff officers and responsible Commanding Officer for Tug of War Lt Col M K D P Mapalagama psc & 300 troops were took part for the event. 19 GW team was able to gain Second Runner Up after defeat the 16 (V) GW team.

VISIT OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SEVA VANITHA BRANCH OF THE GEMUNU WATCH TO THE MIHINDU SETHMEDURA ON 21 JANUARY 2017

As per the Gemunu watch Seva Vanitha branch annual programme the president and members visited to Mihindu Sethmedura-Attidiya on 21 January 2017.The president of the Gemunu watch Seva vanitha Branch Mrs Monika Vithange and Members, Commanding Officer of 4th Battalion the Gemunu Watch ,Commanding Officer of 6th Battalion the Gemunu Watch, Second in Command - Regimental Headquarters Battalion attended the event.

REGIMENTAL COUNCIL MEETING

The Regimental Council meeting of the Gemunu Watch was held at the 11th Battalion the Gemunu Watch Headquarters on 23rd December 2016 under the patronage of Col of the Regt , Major General PUS Vithanage RSP ndu. Matters relating to the Development and Administration came under discussion at the meeting and many Senior Officers were present at the meeting

MONTHLY MEETING OF THE GEMUNU SEVA WANITHA BRANCH

The monthly meeting of the Gemunu Seva Wanitha Branch was held on 19 february 2017 at the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Regimental auditorium with the patronage Mrs Monika Vithanage the president of the Gemunu Seva Wanitha Branch with other members of the Gemunu Seva Wanitha Branch. The monthly meeting commenced with the scheduled programme and meantime donation programme was conducted. Doner Mrs Ramyakumari Abanpola and her daughter Nirodha Abanpola donated artificial leg worth of Rs 56270.00 for the beneficial for disabled war hero S/419655 Sgt Disanayake DMD 5th Battalion the Gemunu Watch.

UN Flag Handing Over to 11th UN Contingent of Sri Lanka Army Proceeding to Lebanon

The Parade, to hand over the UN flag to the 11th contingent of Sri Lanka Armyâs Peace-Keeping Force bound for Lebanon for a period of 1 year was held today (Thursday 09 Feb 2017) at Regimental Centre The Gemunu Watch in Kuruwita.

The contingent comprising 10 Officers and 140 Other Ranks is to be commanded by Lt Col CA Rajapaksha RSP GW while Maj MAT Muhandiramge RSP psc MIR will function as the Second in Command. Maj MMMP Mahesh Kumara SLCMP and Maj TMKC Amarakoon GW will be the Logistic Officer and the Operation & Training Officer respectively.

ANNUAL GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE GEMUNU WATCH EX- SERVICEMEN\'S REGIMENTAL ASSOCIATION

Annual General Committee Meeting of the GWESRA was held on 29 January 2017 at the Gemunu Regimental Centre Kuruvita with the patronage Brig Hiran N Halangode (Retired) RWP RSP USP USACGSC, the president of the GWESRA and executive members of the association western & sabaragamuwa Province). The members were welcomed by the Centre Commandant and staff of the Regimental Centre at the main entrance and wreath laying ceremony was conducted in memory of the gallant servicemen those who paid the supreme sacrifice to our motherland.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS -2016

A “Christmas carols” organized by 12 GW and 4 VIR under supervision of HQ 523 Brigade on the direction of HQ 52 Division was held at St Ligoriya church chawakachcheri on 27 December 2016. GOC 52 Division Maj Gen W A Wanniarachchi WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc and Comd 523 Brigade, Brigadier BMTDissanayake RSP and Two Commanding officers of 12 GW and 4 VIR were present at the event.
