SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SECRETARY-GENERAL AND HEAD OF MINUSMA VISITS TO GAO SUPER CAMP

A delegation headed by Mr. M. EL-Ghassim, Wane Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) and the Head of MINUSMA made an official visit to GAO Super camp on Thursday (09) November 2023 to mark the culmination of Sector North operations in MINUSMA.

During the visit, the SRSG appraised the commendable service of the Troop Contributing Countries of Sector North and Sector East including the civilians and military leadership. Afterwards, he extended his sincere gratitude to all ‘Blue Helmet’ peacekeepers and civilian staff who served enormously to create a stable environment in both sectors presently renamed it as ‘District East’. Further, the visiting SRSG gave directions on the safe and peaceful drawdown process of MINUSMA.

In the meantime, Sri Lankan Contingent and another three countries were awarded with MINUSMA Force Commander’s Commendation certificates in appreciation of their valuable and meritorious services rendered to the MINUSMA. This event was organized by the 5th contingent of Sri Lanka Combat Convoy Company on the request of Commander District East in MINUSMA.
