A Sri Lankan delegation headed by Major General W.A.S.S Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu the Chief of Staff of the Army, Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Artillery visited to UNIFIL Headquarters on Wednesday (06) September 2023.
At the entrance of UNIFIL Headquarters, Brigadier Chok Bahadur Chaudry the Deputy Force Commander (DFC) of UNIFIL Headquarters warmly received the Sri Lankan delegation. Later on, the Deputy Force Commander of UNIFIL Headquarters had a formal meeting at the Deputy Force Commander’s Office. During this courtesy call, the DFC described the importance of UNIFIL mission and current situation in Lebanon. Also, he said that he is very much comfortable to perform duties efficiently and effectively as Sri Lankan contingent is on duty in the UNIFIL mission. Further, he highlighted the Sri Lankan troops are well trained, highly skillful and provide maximum service to secure the UNIFIL Headquarters. In the meantime, DFC was convinced that, these peacekeepers made a significant contribution to the island by bringing foreign revenue with utmost sacrifice during the period when the Sri Lanka striving to address the ongoing economic challenges. At that time, he stated that the UNIFIL mission needs a formal approval of the UN Headquarters to increase the number of Sri Lankan troops.
Major General M G W W W C B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, the Director General General Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, Colonel P P C Perera psc, Colonel Overseas Operations of the Directorate of Overseas Operations and Lt Col D P L T Kaluaggala RSP USP IG SLA Contingent Commander of the 14th SLFPC were present on this occasion.
The visiting Sri Lankan delegation and the DFC exchanged mementos towards end of the cordial dialogue.
