TROOPS OF 14TH CONTINGENT SLFPC LEFT FOR UN PEACEKEEPING ASSIGNMENT IN LEBANON

The 14th contingent of Sri Lanka Force Protection Company (SLFPC) in the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) consisting of 125 Army personnel left for the United Nations peacekeeping duties in Lebanon at 0210 hours on Thursday (2) March 2023.

Before their departure, the troops of the 14 th FPC took over peacekeeping roles on Tuesday (28) February 2023 presented a ceremonial salute to Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army at the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regimental Headquarters parade ground in Panagoda. After a warm welcome to the day’s Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage by Major General W A S S Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu, Colonel Commandant of the SLA and the Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), he was invited to receive the Guard Turnout at the entrance, presented by SLA troops as a formality upon his arrival.

This contingent, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel D P L T Kaluaggala RSP USP IG and Second in-command Major W M C K Wanninayake , is composed of 10 Officers and 115 Other Ranks and four sniffer dogs who have been well-trained for detection of narcotics, explosives and mines.

Representing the Commander of the Army Major General P P A Perera Hdmc, psc , Director General, Directorate of Overseas Operations together with Brigadier B G S Fernando USP Hdmc, psc, Centre Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery and few Senior Officers were at the Bandaranaike International Airport to extend best wishes for the outgoing troops.
