SWIMMING COMPETITION - 2023 HELD AT THE UNIFIL HEADQUARTERS IN NAQUORA, LEBANON

The annual Swimming Competition was organized by the 14th Sri Lankan Force Protection Company (FPC) in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) during 25 & 26 May 2023 at the UNIFIL Headquarters in Naquora, Lebanon with the aim of promoting camaraderie and understanding among different UN peacekeepers serving the UNIFIL Headquarters in Lebanon.

Brigadier General Chok Bahadur Dhakal, the Deputy Force Commander of UNIFIL graced the event as the Chief Guest and and joined the distribution of trophies and certificates.He was accompanied by the Contingent Commander of 14th SLFPC, Lt Col D P L T Kaluaggala RSP USP IG SLA.

A large number of peacekeepers from Indonesia, India, Irish Poland Battalion, France, Spain, China, Ghana, Malaysia, Macedonia, Slovenia and Italy took part in the event. The France Force Commander’s Reserve group was gained the championship. Similarly, Spain and Sri Lanka peacekeepers became joint Runners-up.

The achievements of Sri Lankan peacekeepers are as follows:

1st Place of 40 M Breaststroke (Women) - SGT Wimalasooriya KWN

3rd Place of 40 M Breaststroke (Women) - S SGT Gayanthi PDC

3rd Place of 40 M Backstroke Women) - S SGT Gayanthi PDC

3rd Place of 4 X 40 M Medley Relay - 14th Sri Lanka FPC Team
