FORCE COMMANDER IN MALI - MINUSMA APPRECIATES THE SRI LANKA 4TH COMBAT CONVOY COMPANY

Sri Lanka Combat Convoy Company (CCC) has been engaging in convoy protection duties in Mali since the year 2017 as a request of the United Nations. During the last two months, the tendency of terrorist activities has increased and the peacekeeping groups of other countries have refused to participate in the convoy escort duties. Although, the Sri Lanka Combat Convoy Company was entrusted with the responsibility of the logistics convoy from Gao to Kidal from 04 July 2022 to 16 July 2022.

During the convoy, the Sri Lanka Search and Detection team was able to find out two IED’s and defused them successfully.Lieutenant General Cornelis Johannes Matthijssen, the Force Commander of MINUSMA, appreciated the professional competence of the troops of 4th Combat Convoy Company and awarded a Service Appreciation Medal to the following senior officer who discovered the relevant landmines by acting with the great attention and diligence as the Officers In Charge of the search and detection team of the Combat Convoy Company.

Finally, he praised the professionalism and discipline, being maintained by the troops of the Sri Lankan Combat Convoy Company along with the representatives of the United Nations.
