DGGS RETURNS AFTER SUCCESFUL VISIT TO MALI

Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Director General General Staff (DGGS), together with Colonel S.W.P.M.H.R Senadheera RWP USP psc, designated Contingent Commander Combat Convoy Company - B1 (CCC- B1) made a reconnaissance visit to Mali from 26 to 30 June 2023 prior to the deployment of the new CCC - B1 contingent.

The visiting DGGS was warmly received by the Representative of the Secretary - General (SRSG) of the United Nations on his arrival there. After that, Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc representing the Commander of the Army called on the UN Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) and Head of the MINUSMA, Mr M. El-Ghassim WANE, Acting Force Commander, Mission Chief of Staff and MINUSMA Headquarters in Gao, Mali and had a formal discussion on the planned new deployment of the CCC - B1 from Sri Lanka.

During the visit, DGGS met Chief Mission Support Center, Mrs Aza King and Sector East Commander, Brigadier General Harendra Pathak and several UN officials. Speaking at the occasion, they appreciated the performances, determination, morale and discipline of the Sri Lankan troops.

Further, the visiting DGGS requested more opportunities for the Sri Lankan Army personnel to perform Staff duties in the UN missions. In the meantime, visiting DGGS, Contingent Commander, CCC - B1 along with the Egypt Contingent Commander conducted the recce visit. Finally, DGGS visited the Gao Super Camp in Mali and shared few thoughts with the troops of 4th CCC and extended his best wishes to 4th CCC.
