Colonel MDSN Karunarathne psc assumed duties as the Chief Instructor of Army War College on 11 October 2023 following a sequence of events as the third Chief Instructor after the elevation of Officer Career Development Centre to Army War College. A simple ceremony of religious observances was held to obtain blessings before symbolically taking up the appointment and the new Chief Instructor placed his signature on an official document symbolising the formal acceptance of the office at the auspicious time.

The Army War College Cricket Tournament 3/2023 was a thrilling event that showcased the talents and sportsmanship displaying skills, camaraderie and competitive spirit with a series of 12 matches played among 10 teams. The matches were scheduled in evenings allowing both players and spectators to actively participate without hampering their regular studies and duties.

Major General UKDDP Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, the Commandant of the Army War College (AWC), conducted an imperative lecture on the subject of ‘Military Leadership’ in keeping with the timetable of Senior Command Course No.9 (SCC-9) and Junior Command Course No.28 (JCC – 28) as programmed on 20 September 2023.

Balangoda Radha Thero, Chief Incumbent, Belihuloya 'Seela Samahitha Yogashramaya' carrying his message of Dhamma to the Army War College (AWC) as a part of a spiritual development program, pioneered by the Commandant of the AWC Major General UKDDP Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, conducted Dhamma sermon to a congregation of more than 300 pious viewers consisting all Student Officers, Faculty and permanent staff as well as the Other Ranks serving at the AWC along with their close relatives on Sunday 17 September 2023.

Student Officers following Career Development Courses in the third trimester of the Army War College (AWC) visited Kataragama on 02 September 2023 during the Exercise God King. Continuing with the long-standing practice of the AWC, all student officers, faculty members and the administrative staff members together with the Chief Instructor, Senior Instructors and the Commandant AWC Brigadier U K D D P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc first invoked the blessings of sacred ‘Kiriwehera’ by participating a ‘Buddha Vandana and ‘Dhamma serman’ administered by Ven Katharagama Rahula Thero, followed by the rituals at the shrine of God Katharagama.
