The historic temple of “Sri Rahathankanda” hermitage situated in the close proximity of the Army War College (AWC) Buttala celebrated its annual “Poson Festival” facilitating a heavy influx of pilgrims visiting the colorful “Poson Zone” with the blessings of Chief Incumbent, Venerable Elpitiye Sumanarathana Thero for public viewing on 21 June 2024. The three-day “Poson Zone”, jointly organized by the Dayaka Sabawa (Board of lay trustees) of the temple together with the government institutions and the society in Buttala, righteously enhanced the thoughtful inclination of the religious community in the area. Having gone through the precedence of the involvements in the previous years, the AWC troops made their pious contributions and participation in the religious activities during the Poson Poya day programme and also to screen out eye catching lanterns and other celebrations in the “Poson Zone 2024”.

On 1 June 2024, the Army War College (AWC) hosted the second trimester Diners' Club with the participation of the Commandant, Deputy Commandant, Chief Instructor, Senior Instructors, faculty members, and the permanent staff along with 116 student officers from the Senior Command Course 11, Junior Command Course 30, and Junior Staff Course 26, including two foreign officers from friendly foreign countries; Australia and Zambia.

Army War College (AWC) Cricket Tournament for second trimester was held on 26 May 2024 as one of the key events of course calendar that displayed skills, comradeship, sportsmanship and event management. The entire tournament was featured with 15 matches in which preliminary matches were played during the evening time and two semi-finals and final were scheduled on Saturday 26 May 2024 at the College Ground.

Student Officers of Junior Staff Course 26 (JSC) undergoing training at Army War College (AWC) Buttala joined the ‘History Watch Exercise’ made an educational visit to places with ancient and historical value in the Uwa Province on 24 May 2024. The visit was organized as a part of the curriculum of the course in studying and enhancement of knowledge in historically valuable archaeological sites to experience an absolute learning environment.

The Army War College commenced a set of courses in the second trimester for year 2024 with a short yet a notable opening session on 02 May 2024. Under three separate courses, namely Senior Command Course 11 (SCC), Junior Command Course 30 (JCC) and Junior Staff Course 26 (JSC), altogether 116 Student Officers comprising 2 Student Officers from frendly foreign countries, are supposed to follow the respective training Courses.
