His Excellency Mr. Kapila Jayaweera, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Lebanon, paid a courtesy call on the Force Commander and Head of Mission of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) at the UNIFIL Headquarters on 03 October 2025.
Following the meeting, the Ambassador officially visited the 16th Sri Lanka Force Protection Company (16 SLFPC) at Naqoura, Lebanon, marking his first visit to the contingent since assuming duties on 04 July 2025.
The Ambassador and the accompanying officials from the Embassy of Sri Lanka were warmly received by the Commanding Officer of 16 SLFPC, Lieutenant Colonel YSHNP Silva USP psc GR, together with the officers and troops of the contingent.
During the visit, His Excellency addressed all members of the contingent, commending their professionalism and dedication as peacekeepers serving under the UN flag. A reception dinner was subsequently held in honour of the Ambassador and the visiting delegation. The visit further strengthened the longstanding bond between the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Lebanon and the Sri Lankan peacekeeping contingent serving in UNIFIL.
