TROOPS OF SRI LANKA GUARD UNIT-MINUSMA RETURN TO SRI LANKA AFTER COMPLETION OF TOUR OF DUTY

The Sri Lankan 5th Combat Convoy Company (CCC) now known as the Sri Lanka Guard Unit (SLGU) in Mali, returned to Sri Lanka on Monday (22) July 2024 as the first segment of 104 troops out of the full contingent of 207, set to return in two stages due to the termination of peacekeeping duties with MINUSMA.

The SLGU contingent, commanded by Colonel W.W.N.P Wickramarachchi of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and Second In Command, Major A.D Bandaranayake of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps is composed of 20 Officers and 187 Other Ranks.

Therein, the contingent troops were warmly welcomed by Brigadier C.S Thibbotuge Centre Commandant –SLSR, Brigadier S.W.R Prasanna RWP RSP USP Director Movement, Brigadier M.W.S Millagala RWP RSP USP Hdmc psc Director Overseas Operations and a few representative Officers in the Sri Lanka Army at the BIA.

Afterward, the contingent troops were subjected to do HIV, VDRL and FFI tests.

Moreover, the remainder of the contingent consisting of 103 Army personnel including 13 Officers and 90 Other Ranks will be arriving in Sri Lanka on Tuesday (23) July 2024.
